The Booked&Busy Podcast

Two weeks ago I was brainstorming career bliss with Ali Cudby. From her cozy media room sectional, with three doggos sprawled around us, we settled on a question we could answer:

What’s a niche persona that craves operationalization?

Requirements:

  • a group of people who have already reached success (they have to have money to pay for a service)

  • people who are consultants and speakers - solopreneurs

  • people who would LOVE to book more client engagements

  • they’ve got the goods, it’s just about getting them in front of the right audience

“We’re talking about someone like me,” reflected Ali… “Someone who is a true subject matter expert with tons of experience, but somehow has room in my schedule. Heck, I even wrote the BOOK on customer success…”

Huh.

Now that’s interesting.

Writing a book is an accomplishment! But the thing is, most authors think the writing and getting published bit is the hard part. In reality, it’s only the beginning.

“Book tours are so stupid! They sound so sophisticated and fabulous, but really it’s just begging people to send anyone they know in a random city to go to some book store. Most of the time it’s just you and two or three people who are doing someone a favor to be there.”

Huh.

For some reason, I always thought having a book is like some skeleton key to becoming a big time consultant and keynote speaker.

So over cannoli and pizza (yes, in that order), we tinkered and massaged the idea of serving a niche of business professionals who have written a book.

  • what had them actually write a book?

  • what impact did they expect the book to have?

  • what has their post-publishing journey been like?

  • knowing what they know now, would they do it again?
